The Determination of Mineral Insulating Oil and Lubricating Oil Structural Composition

  • Mineral oil refers to liquid insulating materials refined from petroleum. The main components of petroleum are alkanes, cycloalkanes, and aromatics, which exhibit excellent electrical properties and aging stability. By appropriately controlling the content of each component based on specific applications, various insulating oils such as transformer oil, switchgear oil, and various lubricating oils can be obtained. For example, aromatic components can effectively adsorb gases, making them suitable for manufacturing cable oil or capacitor oil, while cycloalkane components can lower the solidification point of the oil for the production of low-temperature lubricating oil. The use of infrared spectroscopy instruments allows for accurate and rapid qualitative and quantitative analysis of the structural composition of oil products.
