Infrared Spectroscopy Application in the Determination of Trans Fatty Acid Content in Food and Edible Oils

  • Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer is an effective method for qualitative and quantitative analysis of substances. Currently, the industry standards of entry-exit inspection and quarantine stipulate the use of Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy in conjunction with Horizontal Attenuated Total Reflectance (HATR) accessory for the determination of trans fatty acid content in food and edible oils.

  • The Lambda FTIR-7600 Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer was used to determine the trans fatty acid content in oils. The results prove that this method is simple to operate, exhibits good linearity, and is an ideal method for determining trans fatty acid content in oils.
